It\u2019s important to remember your favorite canine is already getting proper nutrition with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sbahvet.com\/services\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">veterinarian-approved diet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some Human Foods Are Good For Fido<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While there are plenty of human foods that are toxic for pets, there are some treats that can be shared with your dog. Certain items can:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add minerals, vitamins, and fiber to their diet<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freshen your dog\u2019s breath<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May help with bone, digestive, and skin health issues<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foods You Can Safely Share With Your Dog<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A little of this and a little of that can easily add up to too much for your dog. Those extra calories can add unwanted weight that will affect your pet\u2019s joints. Joint pain can lead to less exercise, more weight gain, and more pain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just because your dog is giving you the sad eye is no reason to loosen the rules on portion control. All of these foods, though safe, should be offered on occasion and in small amounts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salt and sugar can be dangerous for your dog, so check ingredients before considering these foods for treats:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fruits\u2014for healthy nutrients and fiber<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apples\u2014Be sure to remove all apple seeds, which contain cyanide, before feeding this fruit to your pet. Apples should be fresh, not spoiled. A rotting apple is a fermented fruit that can cause alcohol poisoning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bananas\u2014A little bit of banana adds nutrients to your pup\u2019s diet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blueberries\u2014A handful of blueberries as a treat adds a nutrient and fiber boost.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coconuts\u2014Not everybody loves coconut meat and milk, but they\u2019re good for your dog. They contain lauric acid, which may combat bacteria and viruses, help sweeten doggie\u2019s bad breath, and may help heal itchy skin and even hot spots! Don\u2019t give your pet coconut shells for munching. The shells are hard and small pieces are a choking hazard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oranges\u2014Stay away from other citrus fruits, but oranges are okay in small amounts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strawberries\u2014A few strawberries add antioxidants, nutrients, and fiber to your dog\u2019s diet.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vegetables<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broccoli\u2014Raw or cooked, broccoli is okay in small amounts. Like all brassicas, broccoli contains isothiocyanates, which could irritate your dog\u2019s stomach and intestines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carrots\u2014Raw or cooked are equally fine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peas\u2014Fresh or frozen peas are best. There\u2019s a lot of salt added to canned peas, and salt is not good for your dog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Squash &amp; pumpkin\u2014Fresh or canned, squash and pumpkin are a great source of fiber and nutrients. Beware, however, of overdoing. Too much fiber could jam up a puppy\u2019s digestive system!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooked potatoes and sweet potatoes\u2014Never feed raw potatoes to your dog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green beans\u2014Green beans contain fiber, vitamins, and minerals; they also contain iron, which helps build strong bones. Green beans may be the perfect substitute for commercial doggie treats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooked meats<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beef, pork, chicken, and turkey are all okay for your dog. Never feed raw meats and remove excess fat and skin before offering these tasty snacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooked fish<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fish, sardines, tuna, salmon, and shrimp are healthy additions to your dog\u2019s diet. Remove all bones before feeding.
