At <a href=\"https:\/\/sbahvet.com\/\">Sunrise Boulevard Animal Hospital<\/a>, we pawsitively adore all of your fabulous felines, and we\u2019re here with plenty of tips for what to do for a new kitten.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keep Your New Kitten Comfy and Safe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your tiny kitten is filled with curiosity, and she\u2019ll want to explore every nook and cranny of her new home, but she needs to do so safely.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep hazards like electrical cords, <a href=\"https:\/\/sbahvet.com\/indoors-and-outside-how-to-keep-your-pet-safe-from-toxic-plants\/\">toxic plants<\/a>, and household cleaners out of reach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a \u201csafe space\u201d in a quiet area with a comfy cat bed and her favorite toys.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep a close watch on <a href=\"https:\/\/sbahvet.com\/bundles-of-joy-the-principles-of-puppy-and-kitten-wellness\/\">your newly adopted kitten\u2019s interactions<\/a> with small children and other pets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a routine early on. Cats are creatures of habit and feel more secure and confident when they have a predictable schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips for Litter Box Success<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Potty habits can quickly become a source of contention between cats and their families if things don\u2019t start off on the right paw. If this is your first time owning a kitten, here are helpful hints for litter box success:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One size does not fit all. A litter box with low sides is better for kittens.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the litter box in a quiet area away from noisy appliances and away from her food dish. Consider placing a nightlight nearby if the area is dark.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show your kitten where the litter box is, and put her in it after she eats or drinks and whenever she wakes up from a nap. When your new kitten successfully uses the litter box, give her plenty of praise and a treat!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the litter box and the area around it clean.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Should I Take My New Kitten to the Vet?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your new kitten\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/sbahvet.com\/cat-wellness-exams-are-100-worth-it\/\">wellness exam<\/a> can be scheduled as soon as you bring her home. We will thoroughly <a href=\"https:\/\/sbahvet.com\/from-nose-to-tail-examining-your-entire-pet\/\">examine your new kitten<\/a> and answer your questions about kitten care. We recommend monthly visits until a kitten is 4-6 months old.
