To help prevent pet poisonings from happening, our team at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbahvet.com\/\">Sunrise Boulevard Animal Hospital<\/a> has put together some pet safety pointers to protect your furry friends from common hazards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Human Medications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Topping the list of toxic substances ingested by family pets are human medications, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspca.org\/news\/official-top-10-pet-toxins-2020\">ASPCA<\/a>. The most common over-the-counter culprits are acetaminophen, ibuprofen, cold and flu medications, and vitamins and herbal supplements. The prescription drugs most often ingested by pets are antidepressants, heart medications, and anticonvulsants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">People Foods to Keep Away From Pets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pets are healthiest when they eat high quality, species-specific pet foods. Common \u201cpeople foods\u201d like pizza and chips can cause an upset tummy or worse for our pets. Some of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbahvet.com\/blog\/toxic-foods-for-dogs-what-you-need-to-know\/\">problematic foods for dogs<\/a> and cats include the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grapes and raisins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foods that contain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbahvet.com\/blog\/xylitol-and-the-dangers-of-peanut-butter-for-pets\/\">xylitol<\/a> (including some peanut butter)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garlic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Onions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Macadamia nuts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chocolate (chocolate toxicity in pets is extremely serious)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Indoor and Outdoor Plants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Poisonous plants could be lurking in your flower gardens, indoor planters, and floral bouquets. The ASPCA keeps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspca.org\/pet-care\/animal-poison-control\/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants\">comprehensive lists<\/a> of poisonous plants and nontoxic plants.
